- Short drive (~13km) to Mihintale, the hill where Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka in 247 BCE — a staircase climb of a few hundred steps to the summit stupa.
Polonnaruwa & Pidurangala Rock
- Morning at Polonnaruwa (~55km / 1 hour from Sigiriya), Sri Lanka's medieval capital — well-preserved palace ruins and the Gal Vihara rock-carved Buddha statues.
